Rigor is creating an environment in which each student is expected to learn at high levels,
each student is supported so he or she can learn at high levels,
and each student demonstrates learning at high levels (Blackburn, 2008).

Teachers and Students

Do you think our students are ever overwhelmed?

  1. YES! I've thought about that a lot this year. We decided to do a 4 teacher team for 5th and 6th grade to transition them into high school with 7 periods.

So they have 4 teachers per day which means they change classes 4 times.

It has definitely been an adjustment, and I'm not sure if we will reach our goal. I mean the kids who were not organized at the beginning of school are STILL not organized. So in essence we haven't "taught" them anything on that scale. Sigh.

Sometimes I think about how I would be overwhelmed with 4 different teachers and 4 different sets of expectations. PLUS all of the learning that is supposed to be taking place. PLUS homework from 2 of the 4 teachers. PLUS weekly tests from 3 of the 4.

How could they NOT be overwhelmed?

Thanks for letting me go on and on and on.... :)
